The design for Fort Needham Memorial Park approaches the space as a living narrative for one of Halifax’s most transformative events by layering references to the Explosion into the elements and infrastructure that form the everyday park experience. Stories of the people and communities lost, the compassionate response, the resilience of the survivors, and the rebuilding efforts, are strategically inscribed in the landscape, enabling residents and visitors to honour the memory of the event in their own way; either consciously, or simply through their use and enjoyment of the park.
