Swing Bridge Control Tower

Challenging environmental conditions

This project presents a distinctive set of challenges since the building had to be designed for a site with no access to services, and meet very specific NSTIR operational needs. The building was designed as a minimal-footprint observation tower with a control room on the upper floor to provide better view-planes for the bridge operator. While small in scale, the building needed to include the backup generator and electromechanical equipment necessary  for the emergency operation of the swing-bridge. This, combined with the extreme climate of the site, made the building design and coordination critical.
