Inspired by the nearby Mackenzie River delta and the aurora borealis, the new gateway sign for the Town of Inuvik in the Northwest Territories was a collaborative effort between Fathom’s architecture, landscape architecture and wayfinding teams. The sign’s undulating form was designed using coding within 3D modelling software to ensure the correct spacing and precise angle between each blade.
With the area’s extreme weather conditions, it was a top priority to ensure durability and longevity. The sign’s structure is a steel base, sheathed in cor-ten steel with powder-coated anodized aluminum blades.
