Gander International Airport
Gander International Airport
The International Lounge at Gander International Airport is one of the few intact built environments from the early era of passenger air travel. Retaining much of the lounge’s original condition, it is a piece of living Canadian design history.
Respect for the integrity of the building and ensuring the visitor was not overwhelmed was at the centre of the design approach. This approach ensured that the space’s heritage remained authentic.
This project was an opportunity to take visitors on a unique journey through time of an unsuspecting place. From its critical role in World War II to its debut on Broadway, the distinct yet everyday setting for locals and travellers has been significant on a global scale.
The design offers an immersive experience where the visitor can revisit a familiar place and reminisce or discover the space for the first time and take part in its new legacy.
