New Glasgow Viola's Way
New Glasgow Viola's Way
Working with the Town of New Glasgow, Fathom developed a conceptual design for Viola’s Way and the Forbes Street extension. At approximately 8,200 sqft. the site is highly constrained and presented many design challenges to ensure the needs of the Town, neighbours and users were all met.
Following engagement with the Town and stakeholders, Fathom chose eight Adinkra symbols to tell the community’s story and shape the physical space of the streetscape. These symbols were originally created in Ghana’s Côte d’Ivoire during the early 1800s and symbolize traditional proverbs and revolve around the theme of education, wisdom, independence, and reconciliation. The streetscape has been designed to honour existing elements such as the Viola Desmond art wall.
