South Frontenac Community Wayfinding Strategy
South Frontenac Community Wayfinding Strategy
South Frontenac is home to a community of vibrant villages and hamlets. With the population expected to rise by 25% within the next two years, the township sought to accommodate and adapt to these changes. In 2021, South Frontenac updated their branding guidelines. A key recommendation was to develop a Wayfinding Strategy with themed signage to direct pedestrians to key destinations, public parking, and the entry points of trails.
Fathom created a clear, consistent, and highly navigable wayfinding system across the township. We differentiated South Frontenac from Frontenac County with a coherent design language that promotes both community identity and visitor experience. While South Frontenac is a large rural area, there are few landmark destinations. Instead, the township is home to popular civic destinations, historic hamlets, and boat launches that needed improved signage. The new branding balanced the logo, fonts, and colour choices with the township’s past signage to improve navigation while maintaining the township’s character. We incorporated the township’s former logo by dividing wayfinding into coloured themes that highlighted existing assets.
Spread across the lakes, hamlets, villages, and roads of the township, Fathom’s signage provides a renewed sense of discovery that unifies the new and existing members of the South Frontenac community.
