Open Hearth
Open Hearth
Commissioned by Killam Apartment REIT in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia, this placemaking project marks an important shift in this space’s function as a parking lot into a welcoming public space.
Prior to being transformed into this installation, the Gothic windows, circa 1876, were from the Saint John City Market. In their current use at the Halifax Brewery Market they are lit with undulating light and colour, inviting passersby to gather by the fire. The installation aims to spark conversation and advocacy around mental health issues and addiction while providing a moment of hope, warmth, and light therapy to the public.
The installation is a perennial feature located at Halifax’s Brewery Market during the holiday season.
